The Digitimes with the reference to reliable sources reported that the Taiwan-based maker of navigation devices Mio Technology expects to expand its portfolio in the first half 2008. According to the Digitimes, the company prepares communicators with 3G and GPS. Mio seems to join the struggle with the mobile giants, such as High Tech Computer (HTC), Asustek Computer, E-Ten Information Systems and BenQ.
The new Mio communicators will be based in the 3.5G-shipset by Qualcomm and support photo navigation, TMC (online traffic info) and LBS (subscriber location), says the source. Besides another navigator maker Garmin plans to cooperate with mobile phone vendors and release own-branded GPS-communicators.
